The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine and with financial support from the Government of Norway, has announced the launch of new support for rural households in the Petrykivka community of Dnipropetrovsk region. The aim of the program is to promote the development of vegetable and berry production by strengthening farms and increasing their competitiveness.

Financial and Educational Assistance for Small Producers

Fifty rural households engaged in growing vegetables, potatoes, or berries on their own plots, in fields, or in greenhouses will be able to participate in this initiative. The focus is on small producers and individual entrepreneurs who supply local markets with fresh products and have potential for development.

Each selected participant will receive a voucher worth 3,000 USD in hryvnias. These funds can be used to purchase necessary resources and equipment: greenhouses, irrigation systems, water containers, seeds, and other materials. The total budget for the program is 150,000 USD, exceeding 6.5 million hryvnias.

“In addition to financial support, program participants will have the opportunity to undergo training and receive technical assistance on climate-smart vegetable cultivation, water-saving irrigation technologies, soil management, greenhouse setup, and business planning.”

This comprehensive approach not only increases yields but also helps households transition to more sustainable and market-oriented farming models.

Participation Conditions and Application Submission

The program is open to rural households and individual entrepreneurs who cultivate between 0.05 and 10 hectares of agricultural land, possess basic farming skills, and are registered in the State Agrarian Register (SAR). Selection of participants will be based on program criteria, taking into account socio-economic vulnerability and development potential.

Applications can be submitted through the SAR from April 10 to April 22, 2026. It is important to emphasize that only registered individuals in the register are eligible to participate.

Through this initiative, FAO aims to restore local food production, create additional earning opportunities for rural households, and ensure food security at the community level.

The program is being implemented as part of a larger FAO and Government of Norway project with a budget of 4 million USD. This project encompasses support for rural communities in frontline areas of Ukraine, combining the provision of agricultural assistance with early recovery measures. This approach helps families and small producers overcome the consequences of war, restore production in safe conditions, and strengthen their livelihoods.
