Weather Conditions Determine Economic Stability
This was stated by Oleg Pendzin, Executive Director of the Economic Discussion Club, during a radio broadcast. According to him, the weather factor has a decisive influence on the volume of harvests and the formation of food stocks in Ukraine.
“The year 2023 was exceptionally good for us. The overall inflation index for 2023 and the first half of 2024 was 5-6%. The summer of 2024 was poor. Now we have inflation at 15.9%, and the cost of the food basket has increased by over 20%. This shows the huge dependence of our food basket’s value on weather conditions.”
The Impact of Harvest on Inflation and Prices
A successful harvest in 2025 could be a key factor in curbing inflation and rising food prices. Oleg Pendzin emphasized that in the case of a good harvest, food prices have every chance of remaining stable, and inflationary processes may slow down.
The expert reminded that in 2023, favorable weather positively influenced the economic situation, allowing for a low level of inflation to be maintained. In contrast, unfavorable weather conditions in the summer of 2024 led to a significant increase in inflation to 15.9%, while the cost of the food basket rose by more than 20%. This once again confirms the importance of the harvest for the financial stability of Ukrainian families.
