The Polish Minister of Agriculture, Michał Kołodziejczak, expressed the intention to lease for 50 years or purchase coastal land in Odesa to create a Polish grain port. According to him, this decision will open new opportunities for exporting Polish and European grain through the Black Sea, where transportation costs to African countries could be PLN100 lower than the average price per ton of wheat.

Kołodziejczak also noted that grain for export could come from the regions of Zamość, Lublin, and Subcarpathia, where favorable agricultural lands are located. “We could bring Polish grain via the broad gauge that exists in Ukraine, and additionally, possibly what would be brought from Western Europe and stored with us,” he

said.

Furthermore, Kołodziejczak proposed the idea of leasing 500,000 hectares of Ukrainian land to Polish livestock companies. He also shared his concerns about the potential accession of Ukraine to the European Union, pointing to unknown consequences, and called for a 10-year ban on Ukrainians investing in the Polish agri-food industry following this accession.
