The rise in fuel prices will significantly impact the cost of the spring sowing campaign in Ukraine. According to experts, the expenses for processing one hectare of land will increase by 1.4 thousand UAH. This was reported by Denys Marchuk, Deputy Head of the All-Ukrainian Agricultural Council.

Increase in Diesel Prices: Impact on Farmers

According to Marchuk, recently farmers could purchase diesel fuel in bulk for around 55 UAH per liter. Today, however, the price of diesel has risen to 74–79 UAH/l, leading to a substantial increase in costs for agricultural producers.

“To process one hectare of land, an average of 70 liters of fuel is needed. This means there are additional costs of 1400 UAH per hectare. For an average farm that cultivates 1000 hectares, the need for additional financing just for this item is 1.4 million UAH, which needs to be sourced somehow,” the specialist states.

Additional Challenges for Small and Medium Businesses

The issue of rising fuel prices is particularly acute for small and medium agricultural enterprises that do not have significant reserves of fuel and lubricants. The lack of reserves complicates fieldwork and increases financial pressure on farmers.

Moreover, the increase in gas prices will lead to a 20–25% rise in the cost of fertilizers. According to forecasts from the All-Ukrainian Agricultural Council, this will further burden the agricultural sector and affect the economic efficiency of farms in 2026.
