Ukrainian consumers will face rising prices for essential food products in 2026. These forecasts were announced by Denys Marchuk, Deputy Head of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council.

Reasons for Price Increases and Key Trends

The expert notes that among the key reasons for the rising cost of food are hostile shelling, complications in exports, and increased production costs. The most noticeable price hikes are expected for bread, grains, and vegetables. Prices for grains may increase by approximately 5% in the near future. Meat prices remain relatively stable; however, some fluctuations in the cost of pork and beef are possible. As for chicken eggs, a price increase of up to 10% cannot be ruled out by the end of winter.

Vegetable prices are rising due to increased storage costs, as well as the rising prices of imported cucumbers and tomatoes. According to the expert’s estimates, the price of bread will rise by 1.5-2% each month.

Impact of Infrastructure Problems and Market Factors

“The lack of funds and labor shortages are felt, which negatively impacts the country’s economy and creates additional burdens on business operations. At the same time, strikes on critical and energy infrastructure have significantly increased the production costs of goods for the domestic market.”

These factors, according to Denys Marchuk, will continue to influence price formation, and the trend of rising food costs will persist at least until the summer of 2026. He notes that price stabilization is only possible with an increase in the supply of open-field vegetables.

Over the past year, prices for the so-called borscht set of vegetables — potatoes, beets, cabbage, carrots, and onions — have halved. However, currently, the products are gradually becoming more expensive: for example, potatoes that cost 10 hryvnias per kilogram before the New Year are now sold for 13 hryvnias.

After the holidays, wholesale prices for a number of vegetables have significantly risen, particularly for all types of cabbage (except for red), peppers, and onions.
