Ukrainian Farmers Face Challenges Due to Record Pea Harvest
The record pea harvest in the 2025/2026 season has become not only a source of pride for Ukrainian farmers but also a real test in logistics and export. Although grain storage facilities are filled with quality peas, producers are facing difficulties in selling their products in foreign markets.

Export Problems and Excess Supply
This year’s pea harvest has exceeded the expectations of even the most optimistic experts; however, the market was unprepared for such a volume of product. The main barrier is logistics: most export routes prioritize wheat and corn, leaving peas waiting for shipment. As a result, an excess is forming in the domestic market, which is putting pressure on prices.
Due to export delays, farmers are forced to either store their products, hoping for an improvement in the situation, or accept less favorable terms from buyers who are taking advantage of the excess supply in warehouses.
Forecasts and Advice for Farmers
Experts believe that the current difficulties are temporary but require farmers to be flexible and strategic. Proper storage of the harvest is becoming increasingly important: quality ventilation and preservation of the grain during winter can ensure better prices in the spring.
“The global market, especially India and China, continues to show interest in Ukrainian peas, so the potential for sales remains high.”
Therefore, despite temporary export difficulties, Ukrainian farmers have the chance to secure profitable contracts in the future if they can properly maintain the quality of their products and wait for a more favorable market situation.
