Analysts note a significant increase in the profitability of Ukrainian agricultural land by the end of the 2024 season. According to research conducted among 14 leading agribusinesses that together cultivate 1.7 million hectares across eight macro-regions of the country, the actual EBITDA figure after the sale of the main six crops amounted to $446 per hectare.

Increase in Profitability and Key Indicators

At the beginning of 2024, farmers predicted an EBITDA of $402 per hectare. This forecast was made when 72% of the wheat, 65% of the sunflower, and 64% each of corn and soybeans had already been harvested. The positive price dynamics for agricultural products at the start of 2025 allowed for nearly complete achievement of the expected results, which spurred an increase in farmers’ incomes.

Comparison with the Previous Season

Compared to the 2023 season, when the actual EBITDA figure was only $129 per hectare, this year’s results indicate stabilization and a gradual recovery of the market. This is confirmed by a significant increase in the profitability of key crops:

  • Wheat: from -$101 to $244 per hectare
  • Corn: from $38 to $625 per hectare
  • Barley: from $53 to $121 per hectare
  • Sunflower: from $392 to $724 per hectare
  • Soybean: from $211 to $259 per hectare
  • Rapeseed: from $452 to $533 per hectare

“The results almost completely confirmed the forecasts of income growth due to the positive price dynamics at the beginning of the 2025 calendar year.”

Overall, the increase in EBITDA is evidence of positive changes in the agricultural product market in Ukraine, allowing agribusinesses to plan further development, invest in technology, and enhance their competitiveness.
