In April 2026, the prices for a traditional Easter basket for a family of four significantly increased. According to the Agricultural Economics Institute, the basic set of products — Easter bread, eggs, homemade sausage, baked pork, lard, butter, soft and hard cheeses, horseradish, and salt — will cost approximately 1903.19 UAH. This is 14.4% more expensive than last year, when a similar basket cost 1663.26 UAH.

Prices for the Main Components of the Easter Basket

The cost of homemade Easter bread, made according to a traditional recipe (700 g of flour, 6 eggs, 150 g of butter, 300 g of milk, 400 g of sugar, 40 g of yeast, 200 g of raisins), will be 266.89 UAH per kg. This is 14.6% higher than in 2025 (232.96 UAH). The main factors contributing to the price increase were the rise in prices for eggs (+19.3%), butter (+6.8%), milk (+49.6%), flour (+38.6%), yeast (+12.8%), and raisins (+14.1%). Only sugar has become cheaper by 18%.

“The only product that has decreased in price compared to last year is sugar (–18%),” noted Yuriy Luplenko.

Ready-made Easter bread from stores and supermarkets will cost even more due to markups, delivery costs, and various decoration options.

Meat products remain the most expensive: half a kilogram of homemade sausage will cost 287.5 UAH (550–600 UAH per kg), while baked pork will cost 353 UAH (687–725 UAH per kg). Lard has practically not changed in price — 0.5 kg will cost up to 123 UAH (220–270 UAH per kg). Compared to 2025, baked pork has increased by 16.5%, sausage by 35.3%, and lard by 0.4%.

Dairy Products, Vegetables, and Additional Components

Among dairy products, the most expensive is hard cheese: 0.5 kg costs 298 UAH (539–650 UAH per kg). Butter (0.5 kg) costs 292 UAH (110–120 UAH for a 200 g package), and soft cheese (0.5 kg) costs 157.5 UAH (300–330 UAH per kg). The price of hard cheese has increased by 3.7%, soft cheese by 31.3%, and butter by 3.1%.

Horseradish (200 g) costs 31 UAH (28–34 UAH), with its price depending on the manufacturer and taste characteristics. Salt (150–200 g) costs 6.72 UAH.

If tomatoes, cucumbers, apples, and church wine (Kagor) are added to the traditional basket, its cost will rise to 2347.94 UAH, which is 16.8% higher than last year’s price for a similar set (2009.76 UAH).

Prices for vegetables have also significantly increased compared to 2025. Greenhouse tomatoes (0.5 kg) cost up to 78 UAH last year (126–189 UAH per kg), while now they are 187–278 UAH/kg. Greenhouse cucumbers are priced at 175–275 UAH/kg, which is 38.5% more than last year. Apples, depending on the variety, cost an average of 25 UAH for 0.5 kg (45–55 UAH per kg), which is 17.4% more expensive than last year.

A bottle of church wine “Kagor” costs an average of 189 UAH (160–220 UAH per bottle).

The increase in prices for the Easter basket is related to the consequences of military actions: economic losses, reduced production, rising energy costs, and logistical difficulties. This is particularly felt in combat zones, areas of temporary occupation, and places where displaced persons gather. Many Ukrainians are forced to save by limiting the number of products in the basket or refusing the most expensive components — homemade sausage, baked pork, hard cheese, or opting for more affordable products. Some may settle for just Easter bread and painted eggs, at least for the blessing.
