After the forced shutdown of the Kherson heat and power plant caused by massive shelling from the Russian army, local authorities organized the provision of alternative heating sources for the city’s residents. Special attention is given to the most vulnerable categories of the population, including people with disabilities, elderly citizens, individuals with limited mobility, and families with children.

Reserve of Heaters for Residents of Various Districts

To respond to the urgent needs of the community, a reserve of 2000 electric heaters has been created in Kherson, which have already begun to be distributed among residents in different districts of the city. The issue of additional assistance of this type has already been agreed upon with donors and partners. As explained by the head of the Kherson City Military Administration, Yaroslav Shanko, priority access to heaters is provided to categorical groups identified by district councils in collaboration with the heads of homeowners’ associations.

City council employees are making phone calls to residents to clarify their location and need for assistance. According to Shanko, every resident also has the opportunity to contact the hotline, where their request will be addressed, and information about the possibility of receiving a heater will be provided as soon as possible.

“A reserve of 2000 heaters has been created in the community, which are already being distributed to residents in various districts. The issue of additional assistance of this type has also been agreed upon with donors,” the statement reads.

Current Situation with Utilities in Kherson

Currently, most districts of the city have stable water supply, gas, and electricity, however, due to constant attacks from the Russian army, the number of emergency outages has increased. Most disruptions are recorded in the Dnipro and Central districts. The situation remains most difficult in Kindiyka, Antonivka, and the Korabel microdistrict, where there is currently no water, electricity, or gas supply.

The Kherson heat and power plant has suspended operations due to significant damage caused by enemy shelling, despite all protective measures taken. The buildings and equipment of the station have sustained considerable damage, making its further operation impossible at this time. The city authorities continue to work on attracting additional assistance to provide the population with heating during the winter period.
