China Restricts Supply of Drone Components to Ukraine and Supports Russia’s Defense Industry

The Chinese government has begun to significantly restrict the supply of key components for drones to Ukraine, which is already noticeably affecting the operations of domestic drone manufacturers. Despite previously providing Ukraine with parts at favorable prices, the export of these goods to Kyiv and even to Ukraine’s partner countries is becoming increasingly difficult. Market players are convinced that China is deliberately complicating the development of Ukrainian drone technologies, aiming to “cut off the oxygen” to the industry.

Ukraine’s Dependence on Chinese Components

Drones have already become one of the main categories of weaponry in the confrontation with Russian forces. Ukrainian drones demonstrate high effectiveness not only on the battlefield but also in destroying logistics centers, command posts, and oil refineries in Russia, causing significant economic damage to the aggressor. However, experts estimate that about 60% of the components for the production of Ukrainian drones still come from China. In order to fully localize production and not depend on Chinese suppliers, Ukraine needs significant investments from the European Union and the implementation of joint industrial projects.

Chinese Technologies in Russian Weapons

Despite Beijing’s official statements of “neutrality” in the war, Chinese components are regularly found in Russian weaponry. This applies not only to drones: the latest guided bombs of the Russian Federation are equipped with Chinese engines, allowing them to strike at distances of up to 200 kilometers.

Moreover, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reported that China supplies Russia with machinery for weapon production.

This dual policy of China creates additional challenges for the Ukrainian defense industry and requires urgent solutions to replace critically important parts and reduce dependence on Chinese technologies.
