Egg Producers Receive Call from the Antimonopoly Committee Regarding Fair Pricing

The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU) has issued recommendations aimed at preventing violations of competition law among participants in the chicken egg market. This was reported by AMCU Chairman Pavlo Kyrylenko.

According to him, there has been an increase in prices for chicken eggs ahead of the Easter holidays. This has raised concerns for the regulator, which has reached out to ten major egg producers.

AMCU recommends that businesses refrain from actions that could lead to restrictions on the production and sale of eggs, as well as to their price increases, unless the market situation confirms the existence of reasons for such actions or inaction.

Reasons for the Increase in Egg Prices

Experts point to several reasons that have led to an increase in egg prices in Ukraine this season:

• Rising Feed Prices: The recovery of grain prices has led to an increase in the cost of poultry feed, which, in turn, raises the production costs of eggs.
• Increase in Exports: Ukraine has significantly boosted its egg supplies to foreign markets, where higher prices are established. According to the State Customs Service, in January-February 2025, exports amounted to 20.1 thousand tons, which is double the amount for the same period in 2024.

AMCU’s Response to the Market Situation

It is worth noting that AMCU is not responding to the increase in egg prices for the first time. In November 2024, an investigation was launched into the reasons for the rise in chicken egg prices in domestic retail chains, indicating the seriousness of the problem in the market.
