Germany has confirmed that it has no intention of lifting anti-Russian sanctions or resuming direct gas purchases from Russia. This was stated by the deputy spokesperson for the federal government, Christiane Hoffmann.

The representative of the German Ministry of Economy, Anika Ainhorne, emphasized that the country has made significant efforts to reduce its dependence on Russian energy resources in a short period. She noted that Germany does not intend to fall back into this dependency, as energy independence is a “great value” for the state.

The Situation with Nord Stream

Ainhorne also stressed that Germany does not plan to resume gas imports through one of the branches of the Nord Stream pipeline that remained intact after the explosion of the other three branches in the autumn of 2022.

Negotiations with the USA and Russia

Furthermore, the German government representative stated that the German government is not participating in any potential negotiations between the USA and Russia regarding the gas pipeline and has no connection to this situation. She noted that although Germany does not purchase liquefied gas from Russia, possible “molecules” of Russian LNG may be present in the volumes purchased by commercial companies.
