How to Determine the Amount of Property Tax: Tips for Taxpayers

Taxpayers of property, other than land, have the opportunity to submit a written request to the tax authority at their tax address for data verification. This was reminded by the Main Department of the State Tax Service in Ivano-Frankivsk region.

What Data Can Be Verified?
The verification may concern:
- residential and/or non-residential property objects, including their shares owned by the taxpayer;
- the total area of the specified objects;
- the rights to benefit from tax payment exemptions;
- the tax rate;
- the assessed amount of tax.
If discrepancies are found between the data of the tax service and the taxpayer’s documents (for example, ownership rights), the tax authority recalculates the tax amount and sends a new tax notification-decision. In this case, the previous tax notification-decision is considered canceled.
What to Do If the Property Is Not Registered?
If there is no information about the object in the tax database, but the taxpayer has submitted ownership documents, the tax payment is made based on the information provided by the taxpayer until the tax authority receives information from the state registration bodies regarding the transfer of ownership rights to the taxable object.
Individuals can view the generated tax notification-decisions regarding the amounts of their assessed tax liabilities for property, other than land, through:
- the “E-Cabinet for Citizens” menu in the private section of the Electronic Cabinet;
- the tax service web portal;
- the mobile application “My Tax”.
It should be noted that new property tax rates will be introduced in Ukraine in 2025. Homeowners will now pay tax based on the area of the property and its location. The main innovation is the increase of the base rate to 1.5% of the minimum wage for each square meter that exceeds the norm.
