IFAD Plans Extensive Financial Support for the Development of Ukraine’s Agricultural Sector

A three-day international seminar took place in Moldova, where the development of a roadmap for Ukraine’s cooperation with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the preparation of the first investment projects for the Ukrainian agro-industrial complex were discussed.

Ukrainian Farmers Will Gain New Opportunities

Participants in the working group included representatives from Ukraine’s agricultural sector, including Taras Bashtannyk, president of the Ukrainian Fruit and Vegetable Association. He noted that the meeting was constructive and that IFAD expressed interest in starting support for Ukrainian farmers as early as next year, particularly in the fruit and vegetable sector. The efforts of the Ukrainian Fruit and Vegetable Association were aimed at convincing international partners of the importance of such a step for the development of the industry.

“The meeting was very productive. We see the interest of IFAD representatives in starting to support Ukrainian farmers in the fruit and vegetable sector as early as next year. The Ukrainian Fruit and Vegetable Association has made every effort to demonstrate that this is very important.

Significant funding is expected, and specific tools and approaches for its implementation are currently being determined. According to Taras Bashtannyk, IFAD is set to actively support Ukrainian agrarians.

International Experience and Next Steps

IFAD already has positive experience in financing the agricultural sector of Moldova, which could serve as an example for Ukraine. The president of the UPOA emphasized that new support programs will be announced soon.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food emphasized that all proposals and ideas developed during the seminar will be formalized in a Memorandum. This document will serve as the basis for further development of the project concept (PCN) and a new stage of cooperation with the fund.
