Japan Plans to Increase Soybean Imports from the US in Response to Trade Sanctions

Japan is considering increasing its imports of soybeans from the United States as part of new trade negotiations, reports the Nikkei news agency. According to reports, relevant recommendations for increasing soybean imports were provided to Japan’s private sector, responsible for importing this product, on April 24. Given the growing uncertainty caused by the suspension of import licenses for soybeans for three American companies in China in March, Japanese officials are eager to diversify supplies and reduce dependence on the PRC.

Negotiations between Japan and the US on Tariffs

Japanese delegate Ryosei Akazawa is expected to visit the US on April 30 for the second round of tariff negotiations with his American counterpart. Previously, the Japanese side urged the US to lift the imposed tariff restrictions. The policy of increasing soybean imports is part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening trade ties and mitigating the negative impact of global trade conflicts.

This decision may also help offset losses for the US due to reduced soybean exports to China, a consequence of new tariffs imposed by the Chinese side.
