Kazakhstan Farmers Urged to Switch to High-Margin Crops

In the first two months of 2025, the gross agricultural output of the Republic of Kazakhstan increased by 3.2% compared to the same period last year, reaching 434.1 billion tenge. The Ministry of Agriculture aims to achieve a 2% growth in the agricultural sector in 2025. The Prime Minister of the national economy, Serik Jumangarin, urged farmers to increase the cultivation of high-margin crops, emphasizing that this is one of the key ways to meet the established indicators for ensuring economic growth in agriculture.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Azat Sultanov announced the implementation of preferential lending for projects in the processing of agricultural crops. Similar to the financing of sowing works, loans will be provided to processing enterprises to replenish working capital in the amount of 48.5 billion tenge at an interest rate of 5% per annum.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, there has been a 26.7% increase in oil production and other products of the agro-industrial complex in January-February. To further develop food production, a Comprehensive Plan for the Development of Agricultural Product Processing is being implemented. In 2024, 37 investment projects worth over 30 billion tenge have already been put into operation. In the next three years, it is planned to implement 58 investment projects worth over 176 billion tenge.

During the report from the Ministry of Agriculture, Serik Jumangarin emphasized the need to continue diversifying sown areas in accordance with the recommendations of the republican Ministry of Agriculture.
