Ministry of Agrarian Policy Presents National Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation System AKIS

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine has presented the concept for creating a national agricultural knowledge and innovation system (AKIS), which aims to unite farmers, scientists, and advisors for the development of a competitive agricultural sector. AKIS will serve as a platform for modernizing agriculture, facilitating the implementation of modern technologies and European practices in Ukraine.

AKIS — A Path to Effective Collaboration in the Agricultural Sector
The AKIS system has long demonstrated its effectiveness in European Union countries as a key driver of innovation in agriculture. Now, this format of collaboration is being introduced in Ukraine. It is important that AKIS does not remain a mere declaration but becomes an effective tool for uniting farmers, scientists, advisors, educators, businesses, and non-governmental organizations into a single network. The main goal is the creation, dissemination, and effective use of knowledge for the development of the agricultural sector.
At the center of the new system is the farmer, for whom conditions are being created to ensure timely access to relevant information and the implementation of cutting-edge solutions in their operations. Ukraine plans to establish eight regional AKIS hubs, which will serve as platforms for knowledge exchange, training programs, and professional consultations.
New Opportunities for Ukrainian Farmers
The introduction of AKIS will open up access for Ukrainian agrarians to the best modern practices, innovative technologies, and experiences from EU countries. This system will help quickly adapt advanced knowledge and promote the competitiveness of the national agricultural sector.
“Without knowledge, there is no development. And without innovation, there is no competitive agricultural sector. A Ukrainian farmer must be not only strong but also well-informed,” summed up Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Vitaliy Koval.
It is worth noting that since the beginning of 2025, over 7,400 agricultural enterprises have received loans totaling nearly 44.5 billion hryvnias thanks to various state support programs. In particular, due to the demining compensation program, farmers have managed to return approximately 1,400 hectares of agricultural land to cultivation.
