Over 1 Million Hectares of Agricultural Land Sold in Ukraine: 330,000 Contracts Signed Since 2021

Since the opening of the agricultural land market in July 2021, over 330,000 purchase agreements have been signed in Ukraine, and the total area of land transferred into private ownership has exceeded 1 million hectares. This was reported by Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine Denys Bashlyk during a broadcast of the national telethon “Unified News.”

Dynamics of Land Market Development

Despite the challenging circumstances related to the full-scale war, the agricultural land market is showing stable development. According to Bashlyk, the average price of one hectare has increased by 96% since the market began operating and currently exceeds 64,000 hryvnias.

“The land market in Ukraine is essentially a new market that has been operating for five years, most of which has been under conditions of full-scale war. At the same time, the number of transactions and the area of land in circulation continue to grow, and land prices are steadily increasing. This confirms that the market is developing and functioning effectively,” Bashlyk stated.

Regional Features and Safeguards

Sumy region is the leader in the number of signed contracts, with over 32,000 plots of land sold. High figures are also observed in Poltava and Chernihiv regions. The least activity has been recorded in Volyn, Rivne, and Zaporizhia regions.

Currently, about 3% of the total area of agricultural land in Ukraine is in circulation. The market is developing gradually and under state control.

The official also emphasized that fears regarding mass land sales or foreign purchases have not materialized. Legislative restrictions are in place in Ukraine that prevent foreign individuals and legal entities from acquiring agricultural land.
