The European Union has decided to lower tariffs on a range of agricultural products from Ukraine. In particular, the changes affect dairy products, fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, and meat products. This decision is a result of the update to the provisions of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area between Ukraine and the EU.

Trade Liberalization Will Promote Economic Stability

“We are helping Ukraine in military and financial terms, but we also need to assist it by promoting trade liberalization. Both the EU and Ukraine will benefit from the elimination of tariffs, which will contribute to sustainable economic stability, strong trade relations, and further integration of Ukraine with the Union,” commented Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Denmark’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, which holds the EU presidency until December 31, 2025.

Alignment of Standards and Exceptions for Specific Goods

In exchange for the reduction of tariffs, Ukraine commits to harmonizing its production standards with European norms. This includes ensuring animal welfare, regulating the use of pesticides and veterinary products in accordance with EU standards.

At the same time, existing tariffs remain in place for certain Ukrainian goods. In particular, the European Union will not reduce tariff rates on eggs, wheat, sugar, corn, and honey.
