Restoration of Railway Connections and Energy Cooperation between Ukraine and Moldova

Representatives of the relevant ministries of Ukraine and Moldova held discussions on the restoration of railway connections between Odesa and Chișinău. It is noted that this project, considering security risks, has the potential to improve transportation accessibility and strengthen economic ties between both countries.

One of the key aspects of the conversation was the issue of restoring the transit of Moldovan freight cars through Ukrainian territory. The Ukrainian side confirmed that there are currently no restrictions on their movement. At the same time, temporary difficulties in interaction arose due to a cyberattack on the information systems of “Ukrzaliznytsia,” which occurred on March 23, 2025. Active work is ongoing to restore stability in the operation of these systems.

Additionally, both countries expressed interest in cooperation to ensure energy security. This includes the development of alternative routes for gas and electricity supply, integration of energy markets, and coordination of efforts in collaboration with the European Union. The Moldovan side also expressed interest in using Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities to build its gas reserves.
