The administration of US President Donald Trump plans to amend the terms of the subsoil agreement with Ukraine, as reported by the Financial Times. Washington is interested in ensuring that Kyiv agrees to clear rules regarding the ownership and management of a joint investment fund, as well as increasing the scope of the agreement, which may involve American ownership rights over certain Ukrainian economic assets, including nuclear power plants.

Additionally, the new draft agreement includes a provision that the US “supports Ukraine’s efforts to obtain the security guarantees necessary for establishing lasting peace.”

The Ukrainian side, in turn, hopes to receive clear security guarantees from the US in exchange for sharing profits from natural resources. Currently, complex negotiations are underway, covering both economic and security issues, as stated by representatives of both countries.

“We are ready to sign it,” said a high-ranking Ukrainian official close to President Zelensky.

However, the Trump administration has not yet provided Ukraine with an updated version of the agreement. At the same time, Donald Trump announced that the United States would “very soon” sign an agreement with Ukraine regarding rare earth metals.
