Shmyhal expressed gratitude to the European Union for its support, particularly for Kallas’s initiative to allocate 40 billion euros to strengthen military assistance for Ukraine. He noted:

“We discussed Ukraine’s urgent defense needs. I emphasized the importance of procuring 2 million artillery shells for Ukraine. I highlighted the significance of implementing the ReArm Europe plan, as well as the swift launch of the SAFE instrument, which amounts to 150 billion euros.”

Additionally, Shmyhal stressed the importance of Ukraine’s participation in joint defense procurement both in the European market and through Ukrainian companies. He also reported that the parties discussed the continuation of strengthening the sanctions policy against Russia.

“Together with Ms. Kaia Kallas, we confirmed our joint position: no peace without justice. We emphasize that efforts for a just and lasting peace must be based on the principles of ‘nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine’ and ‘nothing about Europe without Europe.’”

It is worth noting that the day before, Kaia Kallas announced that the EU would provide over 2 billion euros from frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine.
