The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Approved the Procedure for Maintaining the State Register of GMOs

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has officially approved the Procedure for Maintaining the State Register of Genetically Modified Organisms. This decision was announced by the government’s permanent representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk, through his Telegram profile.

It is noted that the resolution was adopted today, April 15, in accordance with the provisions of the Law of Ukraine “On State Regulation of Genetic Engineering Activities and State Control over the Placement of Genetically Modified Organisms and Products on the Market”.

According to the explanatory note to the draft resolution, the document proposes to stipulate that the State Register of GMOs will start functioning no later than the day the Law of Ukraine “On State Regulation of Genetic Engineering Activities and State Control over the Placement of Genetically Modified Organisms and Products on the Market” comes into effect, specifically on September 16, 2026, but not earlier than the date of its commissioning.

The implementation of this resolution will allow for the harmonization of Ukrainian legislation with the norms of the European Union, which will be an important step for the development of this field in Ukraine.
