The Government Will Fund the Construction of Vegetable Storage Facilities in 2026 to Stabilize Prices
In 2026, the government plans to allocate funds for the construction of new vegetable storage facilities, which will ensure stable prices for domestic vegetables in the spring and reduce dependence on imports. This was stated by MP and member of the Parliamentary Committee on Agricultural and Land Policy, Dmytro Solomchuk.

Situation in the Vegetable Market and the Need for Storage
According to the parliamentarian, prices for the main vegetables in the borscht set — onions, beets, potatoes, and carrots — have not only stabilized but have also noticeably decreased. This is due to farmers being forced to sell their harvest at attractive wholesale prices because of the lack of sufficient storage facilities for long-term preservation.
This year, a significant number of producers focused on growing vegetables, and many are already eager to sell their products as soon as possible. As a result, prices for onions, beets, potatoes, carrots, and cabbage have become particularly affordable. Owners of established vegetable storage facilities are advised to purchase products directly from farmers in their regions.
Government Plans to Support Farmers
Dmytro Solomchuk emphasized that next year the government plans to invest in the creation of modern vegetable storage facilities across Ukraine. This initiative will help farmers and processors preserve their harvest until the new season, allowing them to avoid price spikes and product shortages in the spring.
“We lack vegetable storage facilities, so we hope that next year the government will launch this program, and our farmers or processors will be able to build vegetable storage facilities,” the MP emphasized.
According to experts, about 35% of the vegetable harvest does not reach the final consumer due to the lack of appropriate storage conditions. The construction of dozens of new storage facilities will allow Ukrainian products to be preserved until spring, reduce losses, and enhance the country’s food security.
The Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture also proposes to expand the grant program to support businesses, allocating 200 million UAH annually for the construction of vegetable storage facilities. This is expected to provide farmers with modern logistical capabilities, stimulate the development of domestic production, and reduce the need for vegetable imports during the spring period.
