Ukraine and the Democratic Republic of Congo have signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of agriculture and food security during the “Green Week” (Grüne Woche) exhibition taking place in Berlin. One of the key agreements is the joint implementation of a logistics agro-hub for the efficient reception, storage, and distribution of grain crops.

Main Areas of Cooperation

The memorandum outlines the expansion of cooperation between the countries in several important areas. The parties not only plan to develop infrastructure for grains but will also work on modernizing the food industry, logistics, and implementing modern agrotechnologies. In particular, there are plans to create a center for processing and distributing food products to meet the needs of social programs and school cafeterias.

  • Development of a food processing center for social programs and school cafeterias
  • Supply of high-quality seed varieties and seed production
  • Deepening agricultural research, precision farming technologies, and irrigation
  • Production of fertilizers and soil improvement
  • Promotion of crop farming, livestock, aquaculture, and veterinary products
  • Enhancement of agricultural education for the citizens of Congo
  • Deepening cooperation in agricultural product processing

Potential for Ukrainian Producers

As emphasized by the Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine, Oleksiy Sobolev, cooperation with the Democratic Republic of Congo opens new opportunities for Ukrainian agricultural enterprises, providing access to African markets, attracting investments, and forming sustainable food supply chains.

“We are interested not only in supplying raw materials but also in developing joint projects in processing, logistics, and implementing modern agrotechnologies. Cooperation with the Democratic Republic of Congo opens new markets for Ukrainian producers, creates opportunities for investment, and contributes to the formation of sustainable food supply chains,” emphasized Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture Oleksiy Sobolev, who signed the document on behalf of Ukraine.

The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine believes that the implementation of joint initiatives will contribute to the growth of exports of value-added agricultural products and strengthen Ukraine’s position as a reliable partner in global food security.

It is worth noting that in November 2025, Ukraine had already signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Ghana regarding the establishment of an agro-hub in West Africa.
