Ukraine and Denmark have launched a new partnership aimed at implementing sustainable land use and ecological renewal of the agricultural sector. This initiative is formalized by a Memorandum of Cooperation signed by Ukraine’s Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture Oleksiy Sobolev and Denmark’s Minister for Green Transformation Jeppe Bruus.

Areas of Cooperation and Key Directions of the Memorandum

The partnership is based on Denmark’s experience in implementing the “Green Triple Agreement” and involves joint projects in the areas of bioeconomy, forest restoration, and reduction of harmful emissions, particularly in the agricultural sector. Support for farmers is anticipated through the use of modern technologies and the expansion of market opportunities for agricultural products.

“The Memorandum with Denmark brings our cooperation into a practical realm. This includes attracting investments in green recovery projects, developing a modern agricultural sector, and taking a step towards deeper integration of European standards in the fields of climate and bioeconomy. The partnership is another step towards greening our economy — where growth policies, investments, agricultural, and environmental goals work as a unified system,” noted Oleksiy Sobolev, Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine.

The Memorandum outlines the following key areas of cooperation:

  • Implementation of multifunctional agriculture considering economic and climate development goals;
  • Realization of joint projects for the restoration and development of value-added chains and agricultural infrastructure in Ukraine;
  • Development of financial and tax incentives to support green initiatives, with subsequent allocation of funds for industry modernization;
  • Implementation of nature-based solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions;
  • Support for entrepreneurial farmers through innovation, scientific research, and modern technologies.

Expanding Exports and Rebuilding Ukrainian Regions

The agreement will also facilitate an increase in the export of Ukrainian agricultural products to European Union countries.

During the negotiations, the parties discussed the prospects for Danish companies’ participation in the restoration of energy, biofuels, agro-processing, and infrastructure in Ukraine. A significant financial contribution from Denmark to the reconstruction of Mykolaiv and Mykolaiv Oblast was highlighted. In particular, within the framework of URC2025, NEFCO and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed an agreement to allocate 338 million Danish kroner (approximately €45.5 million) to support the region’s reconstruction. The funds will be directed towards projects in the areas of water supply, centralized heating, energy efficiency, and the implementation of ecological solutions.
