Ukraine and Latvia Strengthen Defense Cooperation, Romania Initiates Projects Under EU Loans

Ukraine and Latvia are enhancing their collaboration in the defense industry. Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal and his Latvian counterpart Andris Spruds signed a memorandum of cooperation. The document outlines the implementation of joint innovative projects, conducting research, and sharing best practices regarding the use of modern weaponry.

Focus on Joint Drone Production and Cybersecurity

The parties paid special attention to the development of unmanned aerial vehicle production, sharing experiences on their effective use, as well as enhancing long-range capabilities. The topic of cooperation in the field of cybersecurity, which is critically important in the face of modern threats, was also discussed.

“We are working on developing industrial cooperation. In particular, the focus is on joint drone production. We are ready to share our experiences in their application. We discussed strengthening long-range capabilities. Additionally, we talked about exchanging experiences in the field of cybersecurity,” Shmyhal said.

Romania Begins Projects Under EU Defense Financing

European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius emphasized that Romania has become one of the first European Union countries to initiate concrete negotiations with Ukraine regarding participation in the EU SAFE defense industry loan program. According to Kubilius, Bucharest aims not only to support Ukraine but also to modernize its own defense industry. He also urged other European countries to join this initiative, noting that 13 countries have already pledged to use EU loans to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

Active cooperation with partners is intended not only to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities but also to promote the technological development of the defense sectors of partner countries.
