Ukraine and Lebanon are actively working on concluding a free trade agreement and intend to establish a joint logistical agrohub that will facilitate the efficient distribution of Ukrainian agricultural products in the Middle East. In addition, the countries have agreed to cooperate in the area of demining activities and to exchange experiences regarding land reclamation after hostilities.

Deepening Trade and Agro-logistical Cooperation

During the visit of the Ukrainian delegation to Beirut, the issue of restoring the operation of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade Cooperation was discussed. The Minister of Economy and Trade of the Republic of Lebanon, Amer Bissat, emphasized that Lebanon is interested in expanding the range of goods imported from Ukraine and also proposed to create a regional agrohub on Lebanese territory. This decision aims to improve food security and ensure a stable supply chain for Middle Eastern countries.

“The project for a food and logistics hub in this country is not just about larger volumes of trade. It is also about the food security of the region, as Lebanon can become a trading gateway for Ukrainian goods,” noted Igor Bezkaravainy, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine.

Demining Activities and Experience Exchange in Security

Particular attention during the negotiations was paid to demining activities. Ukraine offered to share its experience in clearing territories and restoring lands, specifically using drones equipped with sensors to detect explosive objects. A regional demining center is currently being established in Lebanon, where specialists from various Middle Eastern countries will undergo training. Ukrainian experts may participate in teaching at this center, which will contribute to enhancing security levels in the region.

To implement the agreements reached, the parties decided to restore the operation of the Ukrainian-Lebanese Intergovernmental Commission. Its activities will allow for effective coordination of joint projects in the fields of agriculture, environmental protection, and trade at the intergovernmental level.
