A Ukrainian delegation led by the First Deputy Head of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, Oleg Osiyan, visited the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria on a working visit as part of a business mission. The delegation also included the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to Algeria, Oleksandr Voronin, and representatives of the Union of Dairy Enterprises of Ukraine. The main goal of the trip was to strengthen cooperation between the countries and create new opportunities for Ukrainian exports, primarily of dairy and livestock products.
Negotiations and Key Areas of Cooperation
During the negotiations, the Ukrainian side emphasized the need to simplify access for Ukrainian producers to the Algerian market, particularly in the area of dairy and livestock products. The State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection stressed that the conditions for Ukrainian businesses to enter the market should be transparent and predictable.
“We are working not only on opening markets but also on ensuring that Ukrainian businesses have clear, stable, and predictable working conditions in the international trade arena. Today, Ukraine already has agreed export directions to Algeria, which creates a foundation for further expanding the presence of Ukrainian agricultural products in this market. This includes directions for Ukrainian producers: milk and dairy products, beef, cattle for fattening, and breeding cattle,” emphasized Oleg Osiyan.
During meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries of Algeria, the President of the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Tayeb Chebab, and regional chambers, mutual interest in further developing cooperation was confirmed. The negotiations took place in a constructive atmosphere, indicating both sides’ openness to expanding economic ties.
Development of Export Opportunities and Future Steps
Key areas of joint work were discussed, including:
- further approval of Ukrainian dairy enterprises for export to Algeria;
- restoration of a permanent dialogue between the competent authorities and business structures of both countries;
- expansion of the list of Ukrainian agricultural products that can be exported to the Algerian market.
Particular attention was paid to the issues of opening exports of poultry meat and related products. The State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, together with the competent authorities of Algeria, continues to work on this direction to ensure compliance with all necessary requirements and standards.
The implementation of the agreements reached is expected to enhance trade and economic relations between Ukraine and Algeria, expand export opportunities for Ukrainian producers, and increase the competitiveness of the agricultural sector in international markets.
