The European Parliament has made an important decision that will allow Ukraine to export new types of agricultural products to the countries of the European Union. In particular, it has supported the granting of equivalence to the certification system for oilseed and beet seeds produced in Ukraine.

This is reported by AgroReview

From now on, sunflower, oilseed rape, soybean, and beet seeds will be able to freely enter the EU markets. This legislative initiative was jointly developed for Moldova and Ukraine and pertains to the equivalence of field inspections conducted in both countries.

Equivalence of Seed Certification

Specifically, the initiative covers seeds of forage crops in Moldova, as well as beet and oilseed seeds produced in Ukraine. It is noted that since autumn 2020, EU equivalence has already been extended to grain, sorghum, and corn seeds from Ukraine.

Next Steps

Currently, for the final approval of the legislative initiative, a number of formalities known as a trilogue must be agreed upon between representatives of the European Parliament, the Council of the EU, and the European Commission. After this process is completed, the document will be published and come into effect.
