Deepening Cooperation and Integration Plan
The parties reached agreements to enhance institutional cooperation between Ukraine and the European Commission, and also began working on a model for the phased integration of Ukraine into the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy. This involves the gradual alignment of agricultural standards, procedures, and regulatory approaches.
“Ukrainian producers already comply with many EU standards regarding food safety. The next step is the integration of the agricultural sector into the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy. This will enhance the competitiveness of Ukrainian farmers in the European market and strengthen food security in Europe.”
EU Simplifies Agricultural Policy to Increase Efficiency
Meanwhile, the Council of the EU and the European Parliament reached a preliminary agreement on simplifying the rules of the Common Agricultural Policy. The new changes involve reducing the administrative burden: annual costs for farmers will decrease by 1.6 billion euros, and for the governments of EU countries by 200 million euros. This is expected to make European agriculture more competitive and open to new participants, including those from Ukraine.
The European Union emphasizes the importance of creating a sustainable food system and integrating Ukraine, which remains one of the leading producers and exporters of agricultural products in the world.
