Ukraine’s Accession to the EU Will Increase the Union’s Arable Land by 31%
Ukraine can significantly change the agricultural map of the European Union: after our country’s accession to the EU, the area of arable land in the bloc will increase by 31%, and the total amount of agricultural land will rise by 25%. This was reported by Jerzy Plewa, an expert at Ukraine2EU and the Polish Group of High-Level Advisors, and former Director General of the EU Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development, during a forum in Mirhorod.

Agricultural Partnership Between Ukraine and the EU
According to Plewa, the agricultural systems of Ukraine and the EU are not competitors; on the contrary, they complement each other harmoniously. The expert emphasized that the integration of the Ukrainian agricultural sector into the European market opens up new opportunities for creating joint value-added chains and strengthens the EU’s position as one of the key players in the global food market.
“The integration of the Ukrainian agricultural sector into the EU creates new joint value-added chains and enhances global food security as well as the EU as a global agricultural bloc,” the specialist noted.
He cited the example of the high-protein feed market, where the EU acts as a major importer, while Ukraine possesses significant production and export potential. Such cooperation allows for a gradual reduction of the EU’s dependence on suppliers from other countries.
Integration — A Strategic Investment for Both Sides
Jerzy Plewa emphasized that a well-planned and consistently implemented accession of Ukraine to the EU is strategically beneficial for both sides. At the same time, he noted that the success of this process will depend on the gradual, predictable, and effective management of the integration.
