Ukrainian Agrarians Prepare a New Wave of Investments in EU Markets

The President of the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club, Alex Lissitsa, reported that the Ukrainian agricultural sector continues to actively develop cooperation with European Union countries. According to him, Ukrainian agricultural producers are already implementing joint projects with partners from the EU, particularly in Romania, Poland, and Spain. This indicates the intentions of Ukrainian companies to strengthen their presence and invest in the European agribusiness in the coming years.

Mutual Interest Between Ukraine and the EU
Alex Lissitsa emphasized that a bilateral flow of investments is expected. On one hand, European companies are considering entering the Ukrainian market, while on the other hand, Ukrainian agricultural enterprises plan to expand their activities in European Union countries. In the expert’s opinion, significant increases in such investment activities can be anticipated in the coming years.
Challenges in Trade and New Rules for Ukrainian Agrarians
“On one hand, we expect Europeans to come to us, and on the other, our agricultural companies are likely to enter European markets. This is to be expected in the coming years,” he added.
At the same time, Alex Lissitsa stressed that the European Union has already warned Ukraine about the termination of autonomous trade preferences. As of May 2025, there are no proposals from the EU regarding the extension of preferential conditions. This means that after June 5, the rules of the Free Trade Area with the EU, which have been in effect since 2015, are likely to return, bringing with them numerous quotas and restrictions.
Additionally, Lissitsa noted that Ukrainian agrarians will have to compete with Russia in several global markets, which creates additional challenges for national exporters.
