In partnership with the American company Bluewhite, Australian farms have gained access to modern autonomous systems Pathfinder and Compass, which have already proven themselves on farms in the USA. These technologies transform traditional tractors into fully autonomous machines that can operate without direct human involvement. The systems are already being used on nut, citrus, and grape plantations in the USA and are now being adapted to the specifics of the Australian market.

“Nut production and harvesting are labor-intensive processes and largely depend on seasonal workers, particularly tourists and travelers with visas. However, following recent changes in labor programs and regulations, producers are facing increasing difficulties in finding reliable labor,” explained Brett Fifield, CEO of Hort Innovation.

Graham Thompson, Business Development Director at Bluewhite, noted that their platforms are designed for seamless integration with existing equipment and take into account the specifics of growing specialized crops. Trials of autonomous tractors in partnership with Hort Innovation and Australian almond, pistachio, and macadamia producers are already showing positive results. In addition to nut crops, the project envisions potential expansion of the technology to other areas of horticulture.
