Features of Cover Crop Selection
According to Shytiuk, the regions where the company operates are characterized by a diversity of soils — from low-humus to clay types. Taking these characteristics into account, the company aims to improve soil structure and increase organic mass through the use of cover crops. Shytiuk noted:
«Our region is characterized by a great diversity of soils — low-humus and clay soils. Therefore, the main effect we aim to achieve with cover crops is the improvement of soil structure and the increase of organic content through the root system of the cover crops.»
Individual Approach to Crop Rotation
This season, «Continental» has begun to apply a new strategy: the selection of cover crops is made considering the preceding crop and the subsequent crop in the rotation. For example, after rapeseed, a special mixture of grasses specifically selected for this scheme will be sown before planting corn. This approach allows for maximizing the benefits of cover crops to enhance the effectiveness of each individual crop rotation.
It is worth noting that the company has significantly expanded the areas under cover crops, strengthening its commitment to restoring and preserving the fertility of Ukrainian soils through the implementation of modern agricultural technologies.
