Egypt Begins Production of Biodiesel from Used Cooking Oil

This is reported by AgroReview
Egypt is embarking on a large-scale development of biodiesel production based on used cooking oil (UCO). To this end, a modern plant for processing oil waste is planned to be built with the active support of the Qatari company Al Mana Holding.
New Waste Processing Plant in Tenth of Ramadan
The industrial complex will be located in the city of Tenth of Ramadan, which specializes in waste management. The facility is expected to process up to 100 tons of used oil daily, converting it into environmentally friendly renewable fuel. This approach will significantly reduce pollution levels and enhance the country’s energy efficiency.
Establishment of a Collection and Quality Control System for Raw Materials
According to the Egyptian Ministry of Environment, the initiative will ensure that significant volumes of used cooking oil are directed from informal sources to an organized recycling system, allowing energy to be generated from renewable sources.
“The Egyptian Ministry of Environment states that the project will redirect substantial amounts of used cooking oil from informal disposal channels to an organized recycling system for energy production.”
Millions of tons of cooking oils are consumed annually in Egypt, creating a strong potential for organized collection and recycling of used raw materials. As part of the new project, a nationwide network for collecting oil from households, restaurants, and food industry enterprises will be established. Additionally, a mobile application will be launched to encourage safe disposal and ensure transparency in tracking the origin of the raw materials.
