Veteran from Zaporizhzhia Ihor Ptitsyn, who participated in combat operations in 2022, opened his own farm for raising California earthworms after demobilization. He now supplies worms to fishing stores, poultry farms, fish farms, and pet shops.

Biohumus as an Ecological Fertilizer

In addition to raising worms, Ihor Ptitsyn is involved in the production of biohumus — a natural organic fertilizer formed as a result of the life activities of these worms. Together with his wife, the veteran studied the specifics of this field, analyzed market demand, and repeatedly submitted a business plan to obtain a government grant for business development.

“At first, it was very difficult because, as it turns out, 70% of all the literature we read and all the internet resources we reviewed were not useful to us, but rather hindered us. A lot of money was wasted,” said Ihor Ptitsyn.

Two Products from One Farm

Ptitsyn notes that the ecological nature of this activity allows for the production of two products at once: earthworms and high-quality biohumus. According to him, biohumus is a pure organic fertilizer without chemical additives that can increase crop yields by up to 50% and suppress weed growth.

For Ihor Ptitsyn, his own business has become not only a source of income but also a means of social adaptation after military service, helping him return to civilian life.
