In the United States, new traditions for celebrating Easter have emerged: Americans have started painting potatoes, onions, and marshmallows instead of the usual Easter eggs. The reason for this change is the sharp increase in egg prices in the country.

Journalists from The New York Times spoke with John Young, an employee at Young’s Jersey Dairy in Yellow Springs. According to him, they traditionally organize a “big egg hunt” for Easter, for which they would purchase about 10,000 eggs each year. They would bake them in the oven and then hide them in the park. However, in 2025, the event might not take place due to the unstable situation in the egg market in the United States.

New Easter Tradition

This year, the celebration will take on a new look. For the first time in the 40-year history of the egg hunt, plastic eggs filled with a coupon for a free ride on the carousel located on the farm will be used instead of real ones, Young noted.

Mr. Young added that many people on social media have positively received the new approach to the celebration. This decision has sparked interest and discussion among Americans who are adapting to the new circumstances.
