Nests Made of Fiber Optic Cable: Birds Adapting to War
Fighters from the support battalion of the 12th “Azov” Brigade, while carrying out tasks in the Toretsk direction, stumbled upon a bird’s nest woven not only from branches but also from remnants of fiber optic cable. This find highlights nature’s ability to adapt even in the most challenging conditions of war.
“One of the abandoned nests was found by fighters from the support battalion of the 12th “Azov” Brigade in the Toretsk direction. The birds mixed natural and artificial materials. This is just one of dozens of manifestations of how nature survives in the flames of war, amidst hundreds of drones, assaults, shelling, and kilometers of scorched earth,” the brigade’s page states.
War and Its Impact on the Environment
The full-scale war has significantly affected the ecological situation in Ukraine. According to Ukrainian experts, the country has already suffered ecological damage exceeding 80 billion euros. Military actions, numerous shellings, and the use of modern technologies force animals and birds to adapt to new realities, integrating human-made objects into their lives.
