Business in Mykolaiv Region: Which Sectors Have Recovered Despite the War

The full-scale war has posed a significant challenge for entrepreneurship in Mykolaiv region. The tourism sector has suffered the most, virtually coming to a complete halt. In 2022, 148 businesses and over 5,000 individual entrepreneurs ceased operations. By October 2025, another 314 companies and over 5,700 individual entrepreneurs closed down in the region.

Business Recovery and the Emergence of New Enterprises

Despite the challenging situation, 624 new companies and 3,901 individual entrepreneurs were registered in the region in 2022, and by 2025, these figures increased to 691 businesses and 5,754 individual entrepreneurs. This indicates a gradual recovery of business activity even in wartime conditions.

Key Growth Sectors

Compared to 2022, the most noticeable growth in the number of businesses is observed in the following sectors:

1. Trade and Transport Repair – from 9,970 in January 2022 to 10,603 in October 2025.
2. Agriculture – from 5,020 to 5,296 companies.
3. Manufacturing – from 1,798 to 1,947 enterprises.
4. Construction – from 1,690 to 1,835.

The majority of new companies are concentrated in the trade and services sectors, as these areas do not require significant initial investments. The region has a program to support small and medium-sized businesses, initiated by the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration.

“Entrepreneurs can receive compensation for interest on loans, partial reimbursement for equipment costs, or expenses for reconstruction – up to ₴200,000 per year”.

Thanks to this program, dozens of companies from various sectors – from agriculture and construction to medicine and public catering – have already received financial assistance. The support program has been extended at least until 2028, creating favorable conditions for further business development in Mykolaiv region.
