In December 2025, canola processing in Canada showed significant growth – compared to November, volumes increased by 6%, reaching 1.08 million tons. This is the second-largest monthly figure in the country’s history, surpassed only by October 2024, when nearly 1.1 million tons were processed.

Historical Records and Market Dynamics

From August to December 2025, Canadian enterprises processed a record 5.1 million tons of canola. In comparison, during the same period the previous year, this figure was 4.9 million tons. The average yield of canola oil since the beginning of the new season has also increased – 42.3% compared to 42.1% for the same period in 2024.

Potential Implications for the Global Meal Market

Analysts emphasize that the activation of canola processing in Canada and the potential recovery of canola meal exports to China could significantly impact the structure of the global market. Already, Chinese importers are booking shipments of Canadian canola meal for delivery in the second quarter of 2026, while relevant associations in Canada report a possible revival of bilateral trade in the near future.

At the same time, analysts note that Ukrainian canola meal may lose one of its key markets if Canadian canola meal supplies to China resume.

Such changes in the market could affect the export positions of other countries, including Ukraine, which is one of the leading suppliers of canola meal to China.
