Ceasefire in the Black Sea Does Not Restore the Grain Corridor — Position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The ceasefire at sea should not be viewed as a restoration of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, as stated by representatives of Russia. This opinion was expressed during a briefing by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Georgiy Tikhiy.

“This was not discussed, and no one agreed to anything like that. Because, again, you know that for quite a long time Ukraine has been independently ensuring maritime transit,” he noted.
The spokesperson also reported that during negotiations with the United States in Saudi Arabia, an agreement was reached to prohibit strikes on civilian shipping and all ports; however, this does not apply to Russian military vessels.
“In other words, the movement of Russian military ships beyond the eastern part of the Black Sea will be considered a violation of these agreements, will be regarded as a breach of obligations to ensure free navigation in the Black Sea, and as a threat to Ukraine’s national security. In this case, Ukraine will have the full right to defend itself,” explained Georgiy Tikhiy.
The further development of the grain and oil market in Ukraine and the Black Sea region will be discussed at the 23rd International Conference BLACK SEA GRAIN.KYIV, which will take place on April 24 in Kyiv. All interested parties are invited to participate in strategic discussions and networking with industry leaders!
