China Purchased Over 8 Million Tons of Soybeans from the USA in 2025: Trade Details
In 2025, China purchased no less than 8 million tons of soybeans from the United States of America. Analysts note that such import volumes allow the world’s largest buyer of this crop to fulfill the promise made to the USA as part of the trade truce reached by the two countries two months ago.

China’s Purchasing Activity and Commitment Fulfillment
China’s engagement with American soybeans continued until the end of December, when state-owned companies continued to book shipments for unloading from December to March. This dynamic sustained the purchasing wave that started in October and supported the pace of imports. This, in turn, positively impacted the confidence of American exporters, who were concerned about the potential for Beijing to backtrack on previously made commitments due to a lack of transparent information.
Intergovernmental Negotiations and Next Steps
After negotiations between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, the White House announced China’s intention to purchase at least 12 million tons of American soybeans by the end of 2025. American officials later clarified that the final deadline for fulfilling this commitment is the end of February.
Beijing has not confirmed this commitment, but the Chinese government has taken steps to reduce tariffs on this crop and lifted import bans on soybeans from three American exporters.
Alongside this, analysts in the USA warn that even with active shipments from the United States, Chinese state-owned companies are simultaneously purchasing significant volumes of soybeans from Brazil and Argentina.
