China Reduced Grain Imports by Over a Third in April 2025

In April 2025, China significantly reduced its grain imports, which totaled 9.117 million tons. Of the total grain volume, soybeans accounted for the largest share at 6.081 million tons.

In comparison, in April 2024, China’s grain imports amounted to 14.602 million tons, of which 8.572 million tons were soybeans. Thus, there is a significant decrease in the annual procurement of major types of grains.
Import Breakdown by Crop
Wheat imports in April 2025 decreased to 760 thousand tons, which is 61% less compared to the same period last year. Barley purchases fell to 1.15 million tons, a decrease of 29%. A particularly significant drop was recorded for corn – only 180 thousand tons, which is 85% less than what was imported in April 2024.
