Chocolate Crisis in Ukraine: Producers’ Adaptation to New Challenges

Ukraine is experiencing a chocolate crisis that forces producers to seek new ways to adapt to challenging conditions. “I have no plans to replace cocoa. However, there are rumors that if this trend continues, chocolate manufacturers will look for alternatives to cocoa butter, known as equivalents — substitutes made from coconut, palm, and grain oils. But this mainly concerns larger producers; it’s not a craft story,” notes Anna Shklyarenko.

According to her, despite the crisis, there is a growing demand for sweets. Feedback from chocolatiers supplying their products to cafes indicates that people have started consuming more sweets, as they provide a quick dopamine boost. She emphasizes that when customers order coffee, they inevitably add something sweet — this has already become a tradition.
