Clean Start for Spring Crops
Soil herbicide protection for crops today is a necessary prerequisite for achieving high yields of spring crops. Specialists from Ukravit explain the nuances to consider when choosing basic herbicides for the 2026 season.

“Changing hydrothermal conditions during the spring planting campaign in recent years force farmers to adjust their protection schemes,” says Oleksandr Myhlovets, head of the agronomy department at Ukravit. “In particular, the lack of moisture during this period often makes the application of basic herbicide protection on corn, sunflowers, and leguminous crops quite problematic. Therefore, we recommend that agricultural producers choose active substances that are less dependent on soil moisture content, have lower water solubility, and mobility in the soil. For example, under such conditions, soil herbicides based on terbuthylazine demonstrate high effectiveness. They allow for reliable control of annual broadleaf and some grass weed species and provide crops with a “clean” start.”
In response to current challenges, the company offers a soil and early post-emergence herbicide Ternat (terbuthylazine, 500 g/l). Its active ingredient is absorbed by both the leaves and root system of weeds, blocking the transport of electrons involved in the photosynthesis process (photosystem II).
Ternat is a proven solution for controlling white goosefoot, various types of pigweed, wild radish, and common weeds in sunflower, corn, and leguminous crop plantings.
For enhanced control, Oleksandr recommends combining it with herbicides from the α-chloroacetamide group – Hortus, Tizer, Datonit Gold. This tank mix will provide maximum protection for crops against annual broadleaf and grass weed species and create a competitive-free environment for growth and development during the early stages of vegetation.
