Grain Accounts for 50% of Container Exports by Sea from the Ports of Chornomorsk and Odesa

According to the latest data, grain in container shipments at the Ukrainian ports of Chornomorsk and Odesa represents a significant share – 50% of the total volume. This information was announced by representatives of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) during the event Freight Forwarders Updates 2025, organized by the Association of International Freight Forwarders of Ukraine.

In second place in terms of container shipments are ferrous metals, which account for 17%, while third place goes to meal with a share of 7%. The share of vegetable oil in the total volume of maritime container shipments is 6%, while synthetic resins account for 4%, starch and syrup industry products for 3%, and sugar for 2%. All these goods, along with agricultural products, make up 68% of the total nomenclature of container cargoes.

Recovery of Container Shipments in Ukrainian Ports

Container cargo operations at the port of Chornomorsk resumed on April 3, 2024, during which there were 104 vessel calls, including the import of 31,660 containers and the export of 33,379 containers. It is worth noting that two port operators are active at the port of Chornomorsk: LLC Chornomorsk Fish Port and State Enterprise Sea Trade Port “Chornomorsk”.

In Odesa, container shipments resumed operations on June 8, 2024. During this period, there were 24 vessel calls, during which 8,100 containers were imported and 11,059 containers were exported. The port of Odesa also has two operators: the subsidiary Container Terminal Odesa and LLC Brooklyn-Kyiv Port.

“A.P. Moller – Maersk will take the container terminal of the port of ‘Chornomorsk’ under concession.”
