The agricultural company “TAS Agro” has significantly revised its sales strategy in response to the challenges posed by Russian shelling, constant air raid alarms, transport stoppages, and changes in logistics routes. Due to these factors, as well as rising logistics costs, farmers are facing substantial financial losses.

Rising logistics costs and export alternatives

Anton Zhemerdyev, the commercial director of “TAS Agro,” stated that transportation costs for products have sharply increased. Costs for road and rail transport have risen by $1–5 per ton, while for maritime vessels, this figure has climbed to $7–10 per ton. Overall, logistics costs have increased by 25–35% depending on the direction.

Zhemerdyev noted that in 2022, an alternative to the blocked seaports was export via the Danube; however, by 2026, this route became less effective due to damage to railway infrastructure and the economic impracticality of selling in small batches of 7–10 thousand tons. Transporting agricultural products by road through the western borders, he said, also does not yield the desired results for most crops.

“It may work for non-GMO soybeans, rapeseed, and certain niche positions, but certainly not for corn and wheat,” Zhemerdyev added.

Advance sales of the harvest and logistics optimization

In response to new challenges, the company has already sold 80% of the 2025 harvest, which is 15% more compared to the same period last year. The revision of the sales strategy began back in October when Russia carried out massive shelling of key stations in the Chernihiv region, which is crucial for “TAS Agro.”

“We had contracts with urgent deadlines, and we switched to longer ones to plan logistics in advance,” Zhemerdyev explained.

By transitioning to contracts with longer execution times, the company was able to organize logistics processes more effectively and minimize risks associated with the unstable situation in the country. This allowed “TAS Agro” to outpace the sales pace of last year’s harvest and strengthen its market position.
