The Vitagro Group, which has already commissioned a biomethane plant in the Khmelnytskyi region with an annual capacity of 3 million cubic meters, has announced plans to construct two more similar facilities within the next year and a half. According to company representatives, the investment for each plant will range from €6 to €6.5 million.

New Projects and Production Expansion

Vitagro has confirmed its intention to build two new biomethane plants. One will have a capacity of 3 million cubic meters per year, while the other will have a capacity of 5 million cubic meters. To implement these projects, the company is considering collaboration with Ukrainian banks, particularly Ukrgazbank.

“We intend to build two more biomethane production plants. It is expected that the production volume at one facility will be 3 million cubic meters, while the other will be 5 million cubic meters. We estimate each plant at €6-6.5 million. This will take approximately 1.5 years,” said Vitagro.

The first biomethane plant is already operating at full capacity, processing manure from livestock complexes. All produced biomethane has been sold on foreign markets at market prices since a test batch in February, including to Germany and the United Kingdom. The company does not disclose details of the export contracts.

Experience in Modernization and Prospects for Cooperation in the Bioethanol Market

During the war, Vitagro invested €20 million in the modernization of a distillery acquired in late 2022 in the Ternopil region. After reconstruction, the facility began producing bioethanol for export, with a volume of 25,000 tons per year from processing 85,000 tons of corn.

The company expresses hopes for cooperation with Ukrainian fuel operators. Starting May 1, 2025, they are required to sell gasoline with a 5% bioethanol content. However, currently, the majority of bioethanol is imported from Europe.
