Agrometeorological Conditions Favor Wintering of Winter Crops in Ukraine
The current situation in the fields of Ukraine indicates favorable conditions for the wintering of winter crops. According to agrometeorological observations, the crops are entering winter in good condition, allowing the plants to develop the necessary frost resistance.

Snow Cover and Protection of Winter Crops
In most regions of the country, the winter crop plantings are protected by a snow layer ranging from 5 to 15 cm thick, while in the western and northern regions, the snow thickness reaches 16-38 cm. This cover provides reliable protection for the root systems of the plants from the effects of low temperatures.
Risks for Certain Crops in Southern Regions
As of today, no significant threats to winter wheat and rye have been recorded. At the same time, winter rapeseed and barley, which are less resistant to frost, are at risk in the southern regions and in certain areas of Poltava, Kirovohrad, and Sumy regions. In these areas, the snow cover is either absent or does not exceed 5 cm in height, and the air temperature has dropped to minus 12-17 °C for several days. This poses a threat of damage to the plants, especially those that have grown excessively during the autumn period.
“Agrometeorological conditions for the successful wintering of winter crops are currently quite satisfactory. This is due to the good condition of the crops before entering winter and the formation of sufficient frost resistance in the plants.”
